My name is Robbie Rittenhouse. I was born and raised in Cupertino, California. I have been professionally tattooing since 1991. When I began my career in tattooing, I decided to do it right and educate myself before going out to make a name for myself. So, I took an apprenticeship under an artist named Topper at Zap Illustrations for 5 and a half months.
Six months after my apprenticeship, I opened, owned and operated a private tattoo studio in Cupertino called Aces High Tattoo. Aces was open for 4 years until I moved to sunny Miami, Florida. There, I worked at a shop called Tattoos By Lou for two years. Missing the West Coast, I moved back to Cupertino were I stayed for 2 more years and worked at House of Pain Tattoos Inc. In 1999, I moved to the beautiful Central Coast and have been living here ever since. I worked at Pandora's Box Tattoo for 5 ½ years and eventually ended up purchasing the business and renaming the shop Cherry Blossom Tattoo and Art Gallery.
When somebody tattoos for a good length of time, they discover that they may excel in a certain style of tattooing. For me it would be cover-ups/reworks. That is my favorite style. I love to take something that is old and making it new again or just putting something new over it. I also love to do and specialize in Japanese tattoos, large scale color pieces, custom drawn art and even flash.
For the past 20 years I have been doing tattoo conventions and worked in many different states. I have worked in Montana; Seattle, Washington; Chicago, Illinois; Kansas City, Missouri; Miami and Tampa, Florida; Sturgis, South Dakota and Reno, Nevada. I have received many awards at these tattoo conventions. At the 1st Central Coast Tattoo Expo in 2002 I won the awards for Best Tattoo of the Day and Best Overall Male. In 2003, at the Lady Luck convention, I won 1st and 3rd places for cover-up awards. And, at the California Mid-State Rally, I won Best Color Sleeve. Most recently, I won third place in the Tribal category at the Biggest Tattoo Show on Earth in Las Vegas, 2012. Those are just a few of the awards that I have won during the past several years of my career.
I have many major influences in my life; the people that get me to strive to do my best and keep me going all the time. Some of them are my wife Nicole, my sons Remy and Dravyn, my daughter Violet, my grandmother and grandfather (may they rest in peace), and my mom.
Artists have to find artistic influences in people who interest them and who have a style similar to their own. They learn from them and in some ways look up to them. There is always something new to learn, and a good artist knows that. Some, not all, of my artistic influence are Filip Leu, Grime, Joe Capobianco, Franco Vascovi, Steve Soto, Nikko Hurtado, Bob Tyrrell, Horitaka and the State of Grace crew, Roman at Artistic Element, Darcy Nutt, Tony Ciavarro, Benny Armenta, Lee Symonds, Tattoo Louie Gomez, Cory Miller, Jack Rudy, and many, many others.
Tattooing is an art form. Please do remember that it is a permanent form of art. Please make sure that you read up on whomever you chose to be your artist and check out their art and their tattooing ability. Thank you for taking the time to read about me and I hope to be hearing from you soon!
